The MGallery Hotel Collection has unveiled its latest property in the heart of Tel Aviv’s Neve Tzedek neighborhood.
Designer Adriana Schor of Iconique Studio was tasked with transforming the city’s very first hotel, which opened in 1913, into the Elkonin Tel Aviv Hotel. “With a quiet nod to history and tradition, I have drawn inspiration from the city of Tel Aviv, from its wealth of cultures and all the beautiful stories it has to share,” Schor says. “This city, facing the Mediterranean, is the promise of a journey, of which Elkonin Hotel MGallery would be the dream port of call.”
The 44-room hotel is heralded by a newly added glass tower, designed by Bar Orian Architects cofounder Gidi Bar Orian, which offers an architectural counterpoint to the historic building. The faceted extension leads to a convivial rooftop lounge and pool on the 7th floor that’s bedecked with terracotta seating wrapped in striped beige fabric.
Open layouts span light, breezy interiors lined with white walls, blond oak baseboards, blue-gray accents, and herringbone parquet floors. Rattan seating is also installed to infuse a touch of the French Riviera as well.
Outfitted with beige and blue-gray décor, the sundrenched L’Époque restaurant on the ground floor is illuminated by brass and glass fixtures after sunset. In addition to its 70-seat dining room and a 20-person private dining room fashioned akin to a library, the eatery comprises a large geometric bar and a serene 36-seat terrace. Spa by Clarins rounds out the onsite amenities, housing five treatment rooms and a hammam all ensconced in hues of white, beige, and gold.
Custom carpeting recalls terrazzo patterns in cobalt and carmine tones as they guide visitors to the accommodations, which include a pair of suites. Blue and coral pink command the palette in each guestroom, where upholstered headboards serve as focal points along with large abstract artwork. Designed by Schor, custom consoles featuring lacquered tube legs and terrazzo tops evoke a Memphis style, accented by refined light fittings. Large gray and celadon tiles wrap bathrooms in a demure palette accentuated by oblong mirrors framed in black metal or brass.
