The rich history of Aleksanterinkatu 13—Finland’s first building designed solely for commercial use—comes to life at Bouchon Carême, a new restaurant in Helsinki from Hans Välimäki, Maria von Graevenitz-Välimäki, Arto Rastas, and Miika Lönn.
Crafted by locally based design agency Fyra, Bouchon Carême is characterized by sturdy, natural materials that create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Warm tones and layered wooden furniture offer an authentic, unpretentious feel, while towering wood shelves, enabled by the high ceilings, divide the space into intimate nooks.
A lively bar anchors the front of the house, and large windows invite passersby to experience the vibrant energy inside.
Inspired by the restaurant’s focus on high-quality meat and vegetable dishes, the design also incorporates butcher shop-inspired meat lockers.
The building’s architectural identity plays a significant role, with a color palette that complements the grand hallway, blending historic charm with the vibe of a modern market hall.
