The lobby at Hilton Toronto has been reimagined by local firm DesignAgency in collaboration with hotel owner Barney River and Scale Hospitality.
At the core of the transformation is Frenchy, an early-morning to late night, Parisian-inspired bar and brasserie. It is complemented by a lounge, an improved check-in experience, and a boutique marketplace.
The Hilton Toronto lobby
The lobby’s rigid precast concrete walls and ceiling were lightened and illuminated to create a softer ambiance.
A bulky central staircase was removed, opening sightlines for an airier feeling and improving the flow between entrances and amenities. New counter seating invites passersby to linger, while in the check-in area, a series of smaller desks replace the traditional single long counter.
Night-to-day Frenchy brasserie
Frenchy serves as the lobby’s buzzy epicenter with an elegant oval-shaped bar that shifts seamlessly from coffee to cocktails.
The lounge and dining areas are furnished with deep banquettes and armchairs, paired with a striking mural and botanical light fixtures. Meanwhile, a private dining room is lined with lacquered cabinets showcasing Frenchy’s wine library.
Across the dining concept, a saturated palette of deep red, modern floral upholstery, warm woods, and polished stones strikes a balance between decadence and refinement.
“It was exciting to work with Hilton Toronto to bring renewed polish, luxury, and service to its downtown Toronto flagship property,” says Matt Davis, founding partner of DesignAgency. “Inspired by the hotel’s location and history, the redesign not only transforms the lobby for hotel guests, but enriches the city’s hospitality scene with a dynamic new destination that brings together locals and visitors alike.”
