Tropical Punch, an eclectic boutique featuring objets d’art, has opened in San Diego’s La Jolla area.
The boutique was born from the imaginations and global travels of Zoe and Eric Kleinbub, the couple behind design-driven—and Michelin-recommended—restaurant Paradisaea.
“Opening Tropical Punch is a dream come true,” says Zoe Kleinbub. “We’ve spent years working with artists from around the world to curate this treasure trove of special items, and behind each piece we’ve selected is a story that resonated with us.”
Tropical Punch is set within the landmark Piano Building designed by William Kesling, one of California’s renowned practitioners of Streamline Moderne architecture. Built in 1949, the iconic structure has been restored by the Kleinbubs with the help of B&R Architects and New York-based interior design firm Georgis & Mirgorodsky.
The store was styled by Anita Sarsidi, who transformed the space with a mix of colors, textures, and styles that marry playful luxury with curated maximalism. A coral pink wall, deep green furniture, and pops of yellow and gold are balanced by natural wood tones.
Among the standout pieces commissioned specifically for Tropical Punch is a chair inspired by the prickly pear cactus and the rich tapestry of Hispanic culture, drawing from the soulful melodies of bolero love songs to the rugged spirit of vaquero cowboys.
Meanwhile, a palm mural transforms the changing room into a serene oasis, while a wall system mirror enhances the boutique’s light and space.
