The newly debuted Shinola Hotel in Detroit has launched two new F&B spaces helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Andrew Carmellini of NoHo Hospitality Group. Designed by New York-based Gachot Studios in collaboration with Carmellini, the two new eateries, the Brakeman and Penny Red’s, join the hotel’s existing signature restaurant San Morello as well as Evening Bar.
The Brakeman arrives as a rec hall-style space that comprises 200 seats spread across two different areas with bars designated for beer and liquor service, respectively. Two 8-seat tables are equipped with a four-tap system for self-service. In addition to numerous custom gaming options, the 4,000-square-foot beer hall also features large garage doors that open up to Parker’s Alley and Farmer Street during warmer months. Adjacent to the Brakeman, the retro-style Penny Red’s provides an array of Southern delicacies and features a separate outdoor area for takeaway service.
