Nivek Remas Brings the Spirit of Coastal Spain to Ontario

Bocado Collingwood blends the ease of Mediterranean design with the energy of tapas dining

Toronto-based design studio Nivek Remas has unveiled Bocado Collingwood, a new culinary concept in Ontario that translates the spirit of coastal Spain into an immersive dining experience.

Rooted in the rhythm of Spanish tapas culture and informed by the design team’s travels to Madrid, the restaurant is a lesson in textured materiality, conviviality, and organic flow.

Enter the modern hacienda

The interior unfolds like a modern-day hacienda, grounded by a material palette of sandy plasters, oceanic blues, and warm woods.

The journey begins in a reception area awash in deep blues, featuring a sculptural host stand and a curved recessed ceiling from which a bulbous cluster light suspends. Moving past a dusty blue curtain, guests enter an airy main dining room anchored by dark wood seating, striking chandeliers, and a curved bar equipped with a hanging overhead wine rack.

A layered experience

Within the main dining room, introductions of color are realized through muted teal and burnt orange upholstered seating, as soft wall sconces that seemingly melt into the walls create a delicate ambiance. Guests are offered a glimpse behind the scenes, with the kitchen visible through a counter partially enclosed by fluted glass.

Mirrors carefully positioned across the space add a sense of depth, while softened arches and flowing drapery shape a series of interconnected spaces.

Intimate discoveries at Bocado Collingwood

In the back of the venue, an intimate dining room offers a slight shift in mood thanks to warmer color tones and ceiling uplighting that casts a radiant glow. Bulbous lights run across the ceiling, hovering over deeply veined marble tables and rattan-backed seating upholstered in a bold red patterned print.

Wine racks line one side of the cozy space. On the opposite side, a small archway frames a secluded booth table outfitted with a luxurious burnt orange velvet banquette.
