Spanish restaurant group Telefèric Barcelona has opened its latest eatery in Los Gatos, California, just outside of San Jose. Inspired by Spain’s Costa Brava region, the open-space concept evokes a clean and inviting Mediterranean flair crafted by Maria Padrosa, Telefèric Barcelona owner and partner, in collaboration with Barcelona-based design practice Trenchs Studio.
“Meals in Spain go beyond the act of ingesting delicious food—they are also focused on the relationships you build with the people with whom you dine. Hence the word ‘sobremesa,’ which literally means ‘over the table,’ that refers to the time you spend after finishing your meal, chatting, and relaxing around the table with the company of your friends and family,” Padrosa says. “To convey this inviting feeling and satisfying experience for guests, we recreated scenarios that make them feel as if they were sitting in a restaurant of our beloved city of Barcelona.”
Ceramic floors, limestone stucco, wicker, and oak wood compose the Mediterranean ambiance along with walls and floors tiled in a sandy hue complementary to original wood ceilings. Traditional Spanish motifs serve as accents to larger focal points, like the signature open kitchen and bar. Greenery also animates the interior in contrast to the authentic, neutral materiality. “We always choose colors, fibers, and textures that inspire us in the Mediterranean,” Padrosa adds. “This type of palette not only enhances the creation of cozy spaces, but is how we’re able to make our customers feel like they have been transported to Barcelona.”
