1 Hotel Central Park, which debuted in 2015 as the first New York hotel in the pioneering, sustainable luxury lifestyle brand founded by Barry Sternlicht, recently unveiled the Park Penthouse.
Spanning 2,871 square feet with 1,201 square feet of outdoor terrace space, the nature-inspired, 19th-story sanctuary comprises two guestrooms and three suites that can also be individually booked.
The 894-square-foot Elm House suite features a green wall with 236 plants, a kitchen, a living area, a king-sized bed, and a 520-square-foot outdoor dining terrace overlooking Central Park’s elm trees. Other accommodations include the 443-square-foot, ADA-compliant Pergola Terrace King; the 479-square-foot Park Terrace Suite; the 404-square-foot Alcove Studio Suite; and the 229-square-foot Terrace King.
Interiors by SH Hotels & Resorts’ internal design team reflect 1 Hotel’s focus on repurposing materials, biophilic design, and bringing the natural world indoors. Reclaimed slabs of Coney Island boardwalk clad the walls, while glass windows were repurposed from a 1920s factory and timber is from a historic mercantile factory. Floor-to-ceiling windows and wraparound terraces frame park views that—along with more than 3,000 plants enlivening indoor and outdoor spaces—instill wellbeing.
Bespoke art and furnishings made from organic materials also support the brand’s dedication to sustainable craftsmanship and local creatives. Walls resemble textured Roman clay, while handwoven macramé and an oversized Himalayan prayer necklace handcrafted from sustainably sourced mango wood beads becomes decorative objects.
Water conservation is emphasized, from showers’ five-minute timers to the rain-capturing reservoir on the 200-square-foot green roof, where an herb garden and beehive supply ingredients for the hotel’s dining venues.
“As the Park Penthouse opens its doors, it stands as a testament to 1 Hotels’ dedication to sustainable luxury,” says Raul Leal, CEO of SH Hotels & Resorts and 2023 Platinum Circle honoree. “With its unique blend of artistry, craftsmanship, and respect for the environment, this exceptional space offers a transformative experience that captures the spirit of Central Park and brings it to life in the heart of Manhattan.”
