The opening of the Holiday Inn in Downtown Brooklyn, New York marks a departure from the brand’s traditional look, greeting guests with edgy designs from Andres Escobar and his firm Escobar Design by Lemay. Located near the Barclays Center, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Metro Tech, the 14-story, 245-guestroom hotel is designed to accommodate a wide range of travelers.
“It was important that the design reflects the area’s exciting transformation. From the moment guests walk through the front doors, we want them to be delighted by the glamour of the hotel, as well as its comfort,” says Escobar.
The entryway makes an immediate impact thanks to a full-height water feature and custom-designed Brooklyn Bridge mosaic mural. Natural walnut walls and macchiato quartz floors grace the lobby, and a chrome and bronze metal grid detail in the reception area also appears in the elevator interiors. Multiple prism-shaped pendant crystal chandeliers refract light throughout the level, and a fully landscaped greenhouse is located adjacent to the lobby, with a partially shaded atrium. A dark azure pool, equipped with a waterfall and glass wall, overlooks the hotel’s fitness center.
The Holiday Inn Downtown Brooklyn, an IHG hotel operated by NY Hotel Management, marks the first of Escobar’s five hotel projects in New York this year. Other 2016 projects include the first of two hotels in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, a Marriott Courtyard, and a new ALOFT location.
