citizenM has expanded its presence in the nation’s capital with the launch of citizenM Washington DC NoMa. Arriving two years after the brand’s initial debut in the city, the new property distinguishes itself with a unique curb appeal fashioned by artist Hannah Whitaker. Wrapping the exterior is a mural depicting silhouetted female portraits captured through a stark techno-futuristic lens. The colorful artwork complements the hotel’s interiors, which were crafted by Amsterdam-based citizenM collaborator Concrete, that draw upon the city’s reputation as a melting pot.
“NoMa is an upcoming area of DC that also reflects the narrative that was developed for this specific hotel: the united colors of Washington, that should amplify equality, freedom, optimism, and inclusion in the design,” says Concrete associate and citizenM project architect Maarten de Geus. “Specific elements, like the curated art and styling, try to embed the design in its context.”
citizenM’s design signatures line the interior—from distinctive casegoods to vibrant focal points and modern furniture. The streamlined luxury experience is further punctuated by a medley of contemporary artwork, including an additional abstract piece from Whitaker and works from other locally based artists installed in guestrooms.
Accommodations are also equipped with extra-large king beds and various elements, from the blinds to the TV, controlled via in-room iPads or the citizenM app.
