Urban travel and lodging concept CityHub has launched its first international outpost in the Vesterbro section of Copenhagen. At nearly 30,000 square feet, CityHub Copenhagen occupies a former retail and dining space overhauled by locally based studio Spacon & X.
The new outpost is home to 215 sleek, compact Hubs—the brand’s substitution for traditional guestrooms—which boast optimized functionality to effectively provide storage and privacy at the intersection of the hotel and hostel experience. The Hangout serves as the property’s key social area, and is populated by raw industrial interiors featuring custom furniture and fabrics, as well as second-hand furnishings and greenery. Plus, a 36-foot-long bar composed of plywood, steel, and linoleum serves as the sole onsite F&B option. CityHub Copenhagen also houses the brand’s first saunas, which are clad with durable materials like silk-screened printed glass, yacht-varnished plywood, colorful concrete, and solid stainless steel.
With COVID-19 mandates and precautions in mind, CityHub has safely adapted its communal model. “The flexibility and variety of possibilities that the interior provides is what makes it possible for people to safely share spaces and facilities,” says CityHub cofounder Pieter van Tilburg. “The Hub, specifically, represents a very well suited alternative to a hostel dorm, providing enhanced safety, privacy, and distance among travelers, which is especially relevant in these times.”
