The Atlanta office of Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has completed the 313-room Dorsett Gold Coast hotel in Australia. Debuting as part of Broadbeach’s Star Gold Coast entertainment destination, the sumptuous new hotel draws harmony between its refreshing and sophisticated interiors and views of the calming sea. A sense of place is further established through subtle references to lapping ocean waves and abstract underwater scenes that abound in artwork and wallcoverings across the property that convey tranquility and whimsy.
“Our vision for the design of Dorsett Gold Coast was one of unapologetic playfulness, whimsy, and soothing tranquility yet modern and authentic for the sun-seeking traveler,” says HBA Atlanta associate Charlie Mendoza. “We used an interplay of color, texture, and pattern to create a spirited, naturalistic interpretation of the locale with a sense of welcoming invitation from the moment guests walk through the front doors.”
A poetic, multisensory experience welcomes guests in the lobby, heralded by a striking custom chandelier with kinetic qualities that echo the ocean motif. Curved walls softly envelop the space, while a sculpted marble reception desk and a batten feature wall complement the effect with organic lines. Columns wrapped in veneer wood and furniture upholstered in faux metallic leather contrast the azure hues of custom carpeting as well. Sinewy lines permeate into the bar area, where low ceilings offer intimacy and textured, monochrome walls channel the seashore.
Additional amenities include an executive lounge on the 19th floor, which boasts notes of turquoise and pink inspired by the setting. Sun-bleached floor planks and crisp white ceilings are accentuated by abundant sunlight, while brass screening ensures privacy.
Accommodations are also distinguished by soft white and pink hues that evoke understated elegance. Faux leather sheath headboard walls with a refined texture, while patterned bespoke carpets nod to botanicals. Additional custom furnishings include decorative lighting and accents of hairline brass as well.
