Eastwind, a Scandinavian-inspired hotel and glamping destination in New York’s Catskills region, is set to open a second property in the Adirondacks this spring. A former 1950s motor inn along the Chubb River will be transformed into the Eastwind Lake Placid. Spread across six buildings and 2.8 acres of land, the getaway will comprise 26 design-driven accommodations, including luxury cabins and one standalone two-bedroom residence distinguished with a vintage Scandinavian postmodernist flair.
“For each property, we like to draw from the location and scenery for design inspiration,” says Eastwind co-owner and creative director Julija Stoliarova. “We worked to incorporate cohesive design that works within the destination as well as the many variations of communal and private on-property spaces. Handpicking each vintage piece plays a key role in our furnishing—it allows us to put our touch on every room making each a different experience, all with a unifying warmth only home can provide.”
Rounded motifs and earth tones characterize interiors along with upholstered furnishings and softer colorways to balance some of the funkier décor. Indoor-outdoor amenities will abound, ranging from an onsite pool and communal firepit to a vintage library, spa, and sauna. A former blacksmith shop will also be converted into a bar and lounge this fall.
Further, each of the eight onsite glamping units will be feature their own aesthetic, including one Victorian structure. Midcentury and postmodern influences will permeate guestrooms, where in-unit bathtubs and fireplaces will be showcased. Hues of terracotta, sage green, and beige terrazzo tiles charmingly line bathrooms, which are also outfitted with brass finishes.
