IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled the Hotel Indigo Minneapolis Downtown, centrally located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 218-room hotel presents a unique blend of local history, art, and modern design inside in the Northstar Center—a newly revamped mixed-use hub that spearheaded the revitalization of Minneapolis’ downtown in the 1960s.
True to its origins, the design of the new Hotel Indigo reflects a thoughtful merging of the past and present. “The hotel draws its inspiration from the original design of the Northstar hotel, an integral part of the ‘city within a city’ concept,” says Derek McCallum of locally based RSP Architects, design principal on the project.
Artifacts, stained glass, and photographs from the original Northstar Hotel enrich the property’s historical narrative, while sleek, midcentury modern elements are accentuated by textural woods and moss-green plaid wallcoverings. Terrazzo and brick are also featured.
Works by local artists and a collection of vinyl records are also displayed throughout in homage of the city’s rich music history. The lobby’s art gallery also leads to Star Bar & Bistro, a concept by local restaurateur Kim Bartmann, which “features a rotunda architectural feature and warm palette of eclectic materials,” McCallum adds.
Additional onsite amenities include a fitness center overlooking the city, a business center, and marketplace in the lobby.
