To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa has unveiled an $80 million transformation. The renovation encompasses guestroom makeovers courtesy of Looney & Associates, the addition of a new F&B destination, as well as a refreshed lobby.
The desert sky is channeled across the expansive lobby, where notes of midnight blue and soft amethyst complement warm neutrals. New seating lines the space all the way from the porte-cochère to the interior, which is equipped with sculptural new chandeliers composed of metal rods that illuminate pyramidal ceiling coffers and the multifunctional lobby lounge. The new restaurant, Tía Carmen, comprises a clean, warm palette and soft curves and arches that infuse an organic flair across the cozy venue.
Desert vistas also serve as the muse for the resort’s 869 guestrooms and 81 suites, which are each equipped with either a private patio or balcony that frames views of the landscape. Conceived as spaces for reprieve, accommodations are outfitted with soothing, subtle earth tones like agave green. Geometric patterns inspired by the textiles and pottery of native Hohokam culture enliven a refined and authentic materiality of wood and copper alongside patterns informed by local agricultural elements as well. Natural wood finishes and contemporary seating infuse a haptic charm in each room, while mural walls further reinforce the desert. “Our goal for the guestrooms was to create a retreat,” says Looney & Associates interior designer and associate Eric Rahn. “The guests should feel this is their place of reprieve, relaxation, and rejuvenation. The overall room palette is natural and light, providing a sense of calm and relaxation. All aspects of the guestroom design reflect a tailored and refined sensibility.”
