The Monterey Beach Hotel, part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, has emerged from a transformation and rebranding effort.
Originally built in 1967, the hotel is the only beachfront property on the Monterey Peninsula, boasting more than 600 feet of exclusive shoreline. It houses 192 guestrooms, including four suites, all with unobstructed ocean or garden views.
Los Angeles-based IndiDesign—managed by Highgate’s in-house design and construction studio LUCID—crafted the property’s interiors to encapsulate California’s effortless, laidback lifestyle and organic landscapes.
The design team curated bespoke furnishings and collaborated with local artists—including Jessica Bovert, Emily Hess, Jess Soriano, and James Aarons—to infuse the space with mixed media installations, handcrafted ceramic wall pieces, and vibrant murals.
The homey atmosphere is perpetuated by furnishings with muted wood accents and organic hues, while natural materials are woven throughout the communal areas and dining spaces to create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor.
The opening also introduces three new chef-driven dining venues: the lively lobby lounge; the beachfront Tidewater; and the hotel’s signature restaurant, the Lantern Room, which features a nautical-inspired design by San Francisco firm ROY Hospitality.
