Amsterdam’s grande dame, De L’Europe, has revealed a collection of new suites.
Years in the making, a wing of the hotel has become ‘t Huys (which translates to house). The section is home to 14 suites designed by notable creatives from across the region—from the Van Gogh Museum to couturier Ronald van der Kemp and jewelry designer Bibi van der Velden.
“We conceived the project as a way to introduce a new blended use concept to luxury hospitality, marrying our commitment to pushing boundaries in design with the unique story of each of De L’Europe’s ‘t Huys partners,” says Coen van Dijck, CEO of D/DOCK, the creative studio that co-created the ‘t Huys concept. “The result is a collection of tailor-made suite experiences where local icons, entrepreneurs, creative talent, Amsterdam-based brand builders, hotel guests, and city residents bring new life to this much-loved city landmark.”
The new accommodations include:
RVDK
The RVDK suite was dreamt up by the visionary behind the world’s first sustainable couture label, Ronald van der Kemp (RVDK). Here, RVDK designs take centerstage, starting with a central work table set against a backdrop of his couture collection mood board.
The bed is encased by cascading fringe—a contemporary take on four poster—while a striking bespoke RVDK art-piece draws the eye up to the ceiling. Soft neutral tones throughout the suite provide a blank canvas for mirrored accents and silver interventions.
Van Gogh Museum
As part of an exclusive partnership between De L’Europe and the city’s iconic Van Gogh Museum, guests have a chance to journey into the world of artist Vincent Van Gogh.
Inside the suite is a first-of-its-kind private gallery room designed to spotlight interpretations of the young Van Gogh’s masterpieces, while a museum space displays copies of personal letters, sketches, and cherished possessions from the artist.
The bedroom features a glimpse of the artist’s perspective with ceiling projections that evoke soft, landscape-like imagery.
Sisters Janssen
Tisja and Ziarah Janssen—a design duo known as Sisters Janssen, who have worked with the likes of Ganni and Laasso—have created an immersive suite that unites the themes of connection and inclusivity in art.
Stepping into the foyer, soft lighting radiates throughout the purple-hued interior, while bespoke mirrored artwork creates a moment for reflection before entering the main space. Beyond, guests arrive in the hybrid bedroom-living room that evokes the embrace of the womb with soft padded walls and a combination of red tones and textures from floor to ceiling.
The suite also features a mural created by Ziarah Janssen that celebrates the female form, alongside objets d’art that reference the theme of femininity and inclusivity.
Other highlights include suites created by Ravestijn Gallery, a renowned Dutch gallery dedicated to national contemporary photography; Salle Privée, a luxury brand with a modernist sensibility; and Dutch film star Daan Schuurmans and his wife, actress and TV producer Bracha van Doesburgh, who designed the cinema-inspired Wolfi Pictures Suite.
