Washington, DC-based firm //3877 has completed the renovation of the Sheraton Reston Hotel in Reston, Virginia. Located just outside the nation’s capital, the elevated 302-room hotel showcases the Marriott brand’s new prototype and takes cues from local history. “The design of the space draws inspiration from the surrounding area as well as Reston’s history as one of the first master-planned ‘new towns’ developed after the height of the midcentury modern movement,” says //3877 interior designer Catie Cannon. “We wanted to lean into the midcentury use of jewel tones and simple tactile patterns, so the design is a bit more playful than you typically see in the area.”
Mixed woods, refined metals, and heavily textured solids round out the Sheraton Reston’s new clean, modern aesthetic. Pops of rich jewel tones—also a nod to local park and river systems—further punctuate the warm interiors, which are awash in natural light. Extensive millwork comprising walnut and white oak offset pockets of greenery throughout the hotel that serve in wayfinding as well.
A striking grand staircase anchors the double-height lobby, leading to an open mezzanine overlooking reception that houses the Provisions Kitchen & Cocktails restaurant. Midcentury-style artwork flanks the stairs, while an expansive communal lounge is featured to the left of the lobby and the onsite bar evokes a moodier counterpoint to the bright lobby beyond slatted screens. Meeting rooms as well as the hotel courtyard and ballroom are also accessible on the ground floor.
