Son Bunyola Hotel and Villas—Sir Richard Branson’s newest luxury hotel in Mallorca’s Tramuntana Mountains—has opened following the restoration of a 16th-century finca by locally based GRAS Reynés Arquitectos. Original features of the estate, including floor tiles and the staircase, have been retained to celebrate the building’s rich history.
Son Bunyola comprises 26 rooms and suites, styled by local firm Rialto Living; the main finca; and the Tafona along with several annex buildings. The Tafona is home to two showcase suites with terraces, and the hotel also boasts two Tower suites with panoramic mountain and sea views.
Led by executive chef Samuel G. Galdón, the hotel’s two eateries include Sa Terrassa restaurant, where the property’s historic oil press and original altar now take centerstage. Additionally, a comprehensive wellness program boasts outdoor yoga sessions within the estate; historical walks around the UNESCO World Heritage Site; two treatment rooms; and a swimming pool with sweeping views of the famous Sa Foradada rock formation and surrounding countryside.
“The northwest coast of Mallorca has long held a very special place in my heart after first visiting as a young boy with my mum and dad, ” says Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. “The historic finca on a UNESCO World Heritage site was just waiting to be lovingly brought back to life, and the team has taken so much care to restore it.”
Branson continues: “I truly believe we have the very best and most unspoiled location on the island with three miles of its own pristine coastline, set within 1,300 acres of exquisite land with the stunning Tramuntana Mountains as its backdrop. There’s also olive groves, vineyards, and some of the best hiking and cycling in the world. I’m hoping it will bring back the magic to those who can remember our original boutique hotel in Mallorca from the early days.”
