Situated within a peninsula in northern Laos’ UNESCO World Heritage site, the Azerai Luang Prabang has debuted as the latest project from Aman founder and hotelier Adrian Zecha. Luang Prabang based-architect Pascal Trahan transformed the Buddhist township’s former Phousi Hotel, which formerly served as quarters for French officers in the early 1900s, into the modern hotel over the course of a two-year reconstruction.
Ranging in size from 377 to 915 square feet, three configurations are available across 53 guestrooms, designed to emphasize simplicity and comfort with clean lines and wood floors and furniture. Superior rooms on the second floor feature private terraces that overlook the central courtyard. The open guestrooms include ensuite shower rooms, twin vanities, a king-sized bed, and French-style louvered doors that open to a balcony or terrace clad with loungers.
An 82-foot-long pool anchors the hotel courtyard, framed by gardens and punctuated with daybeds and lounge furniture beneath an old banyan tree. Amenities include a massage retreat, fitness center, and reading lounge. Featured amongst the onsite dining are the atmospheric, indoor-outdoor Azerai Bistro and the convivial Bistro Bar, located on the second floor.
