Perched above Newport, Rhode Island at One Bellevue Avenue, Hotel Viking is about to enter a new era. The storied landmark will reopen its doors in May, celebrating its centennial year following a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar makeover.
Built by Newport’s founding families as a cultural gathering place, the property’s redesign is led by KHP Capital Partners in collaboration with Pivot and interior design firm Beleco.
Staying true to Newport
The property features 208 guestrooms and suites defined by layered textures, custom furnishings, and sophisticated, residential-style interiors. Historic elements remain a cornerstone of the design, with the reception area anchored by the property’s original 1926 room key cabinet.
To further ground the design in its locale, the hotel is collaborating with local artists, designers, and craftspeople, ensuring every detail reflects Newport’s spirit.

F&B at the Hotel Viking
Central to the hotel’s next chapter is a dynamic food and beverage program spearheaded by chef Robert Andreozzi and beverage leader Jesse Hedberg.
The signature restaurant, Pescadou, draws inspiration from the French Riviera, while Cap Club captures the essence of Newport’s renowned sailing culture. The historic Skoal Room returns as a classic, martini-focused cocktail bar that honors the tradition of the grand hotel lounge, and Tuck Shop rounds out the culinary portfolio as a daily café and market.
Wellbeing and gathering
Beyond the dining options, Hotel Viking features a suite of amenities, including the recently renovated Spa Fjör and more than 13,000 square feet of flexible event space. Signature venues include the Viking Ballroom, which accommodates up to 400 guests, alongside the Bellevue Ballroom and two dedicated conference rooms.
Serving as the historic heart of the events program is Kay Chapel, which has been carefully restored. Dating back to 1859, the chapel seats up to 200 guests and continues its 150-year legacy as a timeless backdrop for events and weddings.
