The Carmen Hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, opened in December in the former Alhamabra Hotel. The beachside oasis is situated along the bustling 5th Avenue corridor with Barcelona-based architect Victor Sanzpoint behind the clean, modern design.
Natural elements reflect a Caribbean Sea influence with textures, colors, and shapes all evoking a sense of calm. A reef building envelope and blue-glass façade further reflect the laidback attitude of the property. Organic furniture, an exotic palette, and indirect lighting create an underwater ambiance. Six different suite configurations span the hotel’s 37 rooms. Amenities include two onsite eateries, the Keel Restaurant and the rooftop Deck 5 Pool and Sky Bar.
