The InterContinental Chicago is making plans for a living green wall, according to the Chicago Tribune. Thousands of plants, growing year-round, would occupy concealed trays hung perpendicular to the wall of the hotel’s North Tower, where windows are scarce. The wall would wrap around about 10 of the building’s 26 stories and light up at night. The project, which is awaiting City Council approval, would cost between $2 million and $3 million. Local landscape designer Anne Roberts has been charged with building the project, which calls for evergreens and native plants that can survive Chicago’s winds and winters.
