After a year of working on them, the Boston Marriott Copley Place is nearly complete with $22 million in renovations to its first and second floors, encompassing its lobby and meeting space, as well as its guest suites, it announced today.
"Working closely with our architecture and design partners, we devoted a lot of time at the beginning of this renovation process to observing and considering our guests’ patterns of use," general manager David Giblin says in a statement. "The resulting renovation really accommodates guests’ needs—and those needs have changed significantly over the past several years. The new hotel flow is so sensible, and the design is stunning. We’re thrilled."
On its first floor, the hotel has relocated its front desk area and is currently building three completely new, mid-sized meeting rooms, which will be complete by January 2010.
On its second floor, meanwhile, the hotel has opened a new restaurant, an expanded Starbucks coffee bar, a new lounge, a relocated business center and a redesigned gift shop.
Other improvements to the 1,098-room hotel encompassed its health club area, which was updated with new equipment and a new pool, and each of its 47 suites, which were redesigned with new furnishings and décor.
Says Yanni Tsipis, senior vice president at Colliers Meredith & Grew, the hotel’s project manager, "This transformative investment represents a strong vote of confidence in the city of Boston."
According to the hotel, renovations currently underway will be completely finished by the first quarter of 2010.
