The Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance, California, has received LEED silver certification. This property runs a solar-powered electrical system and has incorporated eco-friendly and recycled construction materials into its design, such as reclaimed wood features on the reception desk. The hotel also has implemented an in-room recycling program, organic mini-bar items, and toiletries made from biodegradable corn-based packaging. Other green initiatives include energy-efficient lighting, reduction of CO2, efficient HVAC system, a tankless water heater (which is more efficient than its traditional counterpart), and low-flow water fixtures.
The 208-key Miyako, which opened in December 2009, features the Gonpachi restaurant; the soon-to-debut Japanese hot stone day spa, spaRelaken; 4,600 square feet of meeting space; and Japanese art and artifacts.
