Adjaye Associates and Cooper Roberston Team Up for Princeton University Art Museum Project

Sir David Adjaye has been named the design architect for the forthcoming redesign of the Princeton University Art Museum. New York-based architecture firm Cooper Robertson will also serve on the project as the executive architect. While still in its infancy, Adjaye has confirmed the new design will significantly expand the museum’s footprint to accommodate more areas of exhibition and study. Located at the heart of the university’s campus in Princeton, New Jersey, it will also be outfitted with classrooms and offices for the museum’s 100-person staff.

“Defining a powerful center of cultural gravity at the heart of one of the greatest universities in the world, the new Princeton University Art Museum building will engage with its campus and vibrant communities through a new synthesis of art, learning, and social opportunities,” Adjaye says. “The reimagined museum will be the cultural gateway between Princeton University, its students, faculty, and the world—a place of mind-opening encounter with art and ideas ‘in the service of humanity.’”
