Toronto’s Alobar Downtown Gets a Refresh

Mason Studio revitalizes the restaurant with a focus on minimalism and sustainability

Interior design firm Mason Studio recently took on the revitalization of Alobar Downtown in Toronto’s Financial District, transforming the shell of a former restaurant with sustainability and minimalism in mind.

The restaurant’s design incorporates key elements of Alobar’s brand identity, while incorporating details that capture the personality of Michelin-starred chef Patrick Kriss. Intentional lighting, marble contrasted against natural wood, smooth surfaces, and curvature also define the space.

The design team employed a sustainable approach, which included resurfacing existing finishes to brighten the space, and using drapery to manage noise levels and create a balanced ambiance. Large windows allow for natural light to flood the eatery during the day.

Two distinct areas accommodate different guest experiences within the restaurant. A dark, moody bar juxtaposes the brighter, more open dining room. Plus, a backlit wine display sits adjacent to the main bar area.

A DJ booth adds a dynamic and engaging element to the space, integrating music and movement into the Alobar experience.
