The American Hotel in Freehold, New Jersey, is celebrating its soft opening. The property, built as a stagecoach stop in 1824 and enlarged in 1928, closed for fire-code violations in 2004, according to the Asbury Park Press. A year later, a fire engulfed the hotel. The new owners have spent $3.5 million in renovations to the hotel’s 20 guestrooms, three banquet rooms, two bars, day spa, and wood-paneled restaurant.
