Hospitality Design (HD) is joining forces with West Elm to present the eighth annual HD/West Elm Student Product Design Competition.
This year, West Elm is looking for a lounge chair intended for hospitality and commercial spaces. The lounge chair should reflect the West Elm brand aesthetic while remaining aesthetic versatility to complement various environments.
Additionally, the lounge chair must be an original design, be suitable for high-traffic environments; must include an upholstered seat and back; support a minimum of 300 pounds; use tight upholstery or physically attached cushions; and utilize mixed materials for visual interest. It must also be original and unique in the market.
Current students and those who have been out of school for up to a year are eligible to enter. The deadline to submit is March 6th. The winning designer will receive a $5,000 prize and have their product produced by West Elm.

The student winner will also be featured in the May/June issue of Hospitality Design magazine and celebrated at the 22nd annual HD Awards ceremony on May 5th at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas during HD Expo + Conference.
Past winners include Laurie Sadove (2019), Andrew Jacobs (2020), Archana Menon (2021), Chae Rim Kang (2022), Calvin Ma (2023), Ilyra Carlton (2024), and Calvin Ma (2025).
