Golden Age Hospitality has unveiled its latest New York concept, Deux Chats, near the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn. Reminiscent of the City of Light, the airy restaurant and bar evokes a transportive, easygoing elegance crafted by Golden Age CEO and founder Jon Neidich.
“I was immediately taken with the original design details and set out to add to, rather than overhaul, the space—looking to Paris’ Art Nouveau brasseries, whose interiors have been lovingly layered with new design elements over the years,” Neidich says. “We first created a New York spin on the quintessential Art Nouveau tile mural and brought in a green Tadelakt plaster bar top and vintage French décor to complete the Parisian feeling.”
Once ornate and informal, Deux Chats’ warm interiors are anchored by an exposed raw bar and a large handpainted tile mural that depicts two New York cats at play below a large moon. Original moldings and high-arched ceilings are complemented by new vintage French chandeliers, velvet seating, antique mirrors, and back-painted glass tables. Ample alfresco seating will further expand the space as well. “I envision Deux Chats as a place to escape and unwind,” Neidich adds. “I hope it functions as both a neighborhood bar and a culinary destination, where you can celebrate with friends and family over a feast of oysters, small plates, seafood towers, and, of course, ice-cold martinis.”
