The opening of the upscale residential resort Rock House in Turks and Caicos marks the completion of New York-based designer Shawn Henderson‘s first hospitality project. Designed in collaboration with locally based Coast Architects, Rock House—part of the Grace Bay Resorts portfolio—comprises 46 studios, one-, and two-bedroom volumes on the Providenciales island that showcase a blend of traditional and contemporary architecture. Environmental preservation was a key tenet of the project, which was crafted by local artisans out of the cliffs below with limestone feature walls and indigenous landscaping.
“My inspiration for Rock House came from the glamorous hotels in the French Riviera and Amalfi Coast,” Henderson says. “Since Turks and Caicos is surrounded by some of the most beautiful water in the world, my goal was to create interiors that felt calm, uncluttered, and serene to maintain the focus on the ocean and take advantage of the beautiful, unobstructed views from every home.”
Soothing earth tones infuse a laidback ambiance across the property, while terrazzo floors and porcelain serve as a handsome backdrop for custom furnishings. Floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted 13-foot-tall ceilings reinforce vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, as does the 100-foot-long infinity pool.
Amenities—including onsite spa facilities, tennis courts, and a yoga pavilion—are slated to open in the near future.
