Plant-based restaurant PLANTA has unveiled its latest location in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Like its predecessors, the eatery evokes a handcrafted aesthetic complete with natural materials, earth tones and textures, and abundant greenery.
Designed by ICRAVE, the new PLANTA conveys authenticity through the honesty of its material palette. “The imperfect details found throughout the restaurant are a nod to the neighborhood—Williamsburg celebrates artists, imperfections, and nature,” says ICRAVE design director Greg Merkel. “We used creative ways to ‘hide’ imperfections by blending them to make them part of the design.”
Locally sourced and recycled elements honor the brand’s holistic ethos, manifesting in fully sustainable tiles, cocoa mats made from coconut fibers, and vegan leather. Embracing imperfections, the ceiling’s exposed ductwork was even painted to match its large wooden triangle truss beams as well. “We knew we wanted to highlight this wood and use the triangle beams to create a main feature in the space,” Merkel adds. “By not only using the existing wooden finishes in the space, but accentuating them, we really maintain PLANTA’s ethos of a holistic way of living, with minimal waste and sustainability.”
Sculptural greenery and existing columns form a striking backdrop throughout PLANTA, which ensconces guests in filtered light. Upholstery seating and rattan and wicker accents line the dining room, further establishing a handmade feel. Handpainted tiles form a puzzle-like botanical artwork from artist Georgia Beaumont upon the backbar, and just like the walls, floors showcase green, cream, and black tiles in a playful arrangement.
