London’s Sloane Street Deli recently received a facelift by designers Rawan Muqaddas and Melis Ugurlu. The eatery features a nostalgic warmth, while keeping the current Belgravia community top of mind. Through maintaining design staples, like rattan banquettes and tiled counters, the update seamlessly marries past and present. “Combining warmly muted natural tones of terracotta, cream, and green, Sloane Street Deli was conceived with the thought of preserving history while staying true to the neighborhood’s current fabric,” Muqaddas says.
Playful exterior signage hung above a scalloped canopy teases the retro charms of the interior design. Original large windows pour natural light into the space, where other original details, including white moldings, dark wood floors, and marble tabletops remain intact. An array of textures and curvaceous shapes complement the materiality, with smooth leather upholstery and shiny brass accents add new rich layers to the palette. Antique mirrors were also installed to enlarge the intimate interior.
The flow of the layout was enhanced by organically binding the dining room and takeaway areas without sacrificing comfort or efficiency. Updates impacted the back of the house as well. Limited cooking facilities were optimized and Sloane Street Deli now boasts a fully operational kitchen.
