The former Distrikt Hotel Pittsburgh in the city’s Golden Triangle has been transformed into the Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh, Curio Collection by Hilton. The new 185-room downtown urban retreat was crafted with a modern industrial aesthetic courtesy of GrizForm Design Architects.
The design artfully captures the city’s distinct culture and working-class history while also reinventing convention. “The property evokes a familiar, residential feel,” says GrizForm founder and owner Griz Dwight. “Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh encourages discovery within both visitors and Pittsburghers alike while seamlessly fostering connection.”
A mix of layered textures, clean steel accents, and earthy leather upholstery appears throughout the Joinery Hotel’s public spaces, beginning in the inviting lobby, where a communal table and curated library of music and literature can be found.
An onsite shop and a contemporary art collection curated by NINE dot ARTS further showcase local craftsmanship and talent. “Many of Joinery’s design elements and building materials were sourced from local vendors, keeping the location and its style unique to Pittsburgh,” Dwight adds. “Its pared-back style is not only a nod to the hotel’s name, but the updated layout reprises the building’s original intentions as a gathering post.”
Additional onsite amenities include a fitness center, 800 square feet of indoor meeting and event space on the mezzanine, and an outdoor terrace overlooking the city.
