Valencia, Spain-based design studio Masquespacio has completed its first collaboration with Mango Teen. Awash in vibrant green and orange hues, the apparel brand’s new retail space in Barcelona immediately evokes a dreamlike atmosphere as shoppers arrive via a backlit tunnel.
“The best thing of being a teen is that you are living the whole time in a world full of dreams, a world full of things to be discovered—it’s an age where you start to dream big, without taking in mind the limits,” says Masquespacio creative director Ana Hernández. “The entrance tunnel makes us go back to that surreal dream we had, taking us to a future in which conventional elements from the past are being considered futuristic for the new generations.”
Powdercoated steel fixtures line the interior where “incoherent” elements spur shoppers to let their imaginations flow. A checkout counter was reimagined as a midcentury-style hotel reception desk, while bins to recycle old clothing are crafted to resemble washing machines. Matte finishes are also juxtaposed with reflective surfaces to establish a futuristic dialogue. Fitting rooms incorporate the metaverse as well, offering a unique optical effect for selfie-takers with mirrored walls reminiscent of a funhouse.
