A new luxury retreat has debuted along the beaches of Saint-Tropez. Crafted by Parisian design studio Notoire, the La Tartane hotel calls to mind a Provençal village, and comprises small houses with 27 guestrooms and suites designed to evoke the spirit of family getaway.
“For this project, we wanted to create a real family vacation home—a fresh, cheerful, lively place,” says Notoire founder Jordane Arrivetz. “On the Riviera, there are many luxury establishments, but we always find the same sophisticated and slightly overrated codes. For us, holidays by the sea are a form of freedom, simplicity, and unfussy quality.”
A palette of mint green, celadon, sunny yellow, and faded pink permeates the interior of La Tartane alongside archetypal seaside-inspired patterns, including stripes and depictions of coral and plants. “Everything mixes and meets in a falsely random way to give a relaxed spirit,” Arrivetz adds. Much like a family home, furniture and objets d’art vary across each room, while natural materials establish uniformity. Wooden benches, rattan chairs, travertine tables, and embroidered textiles each compose the refreshing take on luxury hospitality.
An alfresco eatery—outfitted with parquet floors, brass lighting, and travertine pedestal tables reminiscent of the early 20th century—sits at the heart of the property. The pool is positioned nearby, beyond a row of planters and accented by large wood daybeds and fringed umbrellas that echo the terracotta hues found within the restaurant. Frescoes by Brazilian artist João Incerti also enliven the site’s outdoor areas.
Accommodations are spread across six small houses named for figures and muses of the Café Society era, like Ernest Hemingway and Peggy Guggenheim. Five configurations span the 27 guestrooms and suites, the latter of which feature two to three floors. In addition to floral cushions and striped armchairs, whitewashed beams and timber roofs are contrasted by vibrant colors—including almond green, pastel pink, and luminous yellow—that amplify the color story of the South of France.
