Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has unveiled its latest property in Muscat, Oman.
Designed by Maison CARTRON founder Xavier Cartron, Mandarin Oriental, Muscat showcases the warmth of a family home, with Omani cultural symbols crafted in collaboration with local artisans.
In the lobby, guests are immediately exposed to the country’s rich cultural heritage. A suspended installation is crafted with vibrant colors reminiscent of spices from local markets, while three fountains—representing Africa, Asia, and the Middle East—symbolize Oman’s pivotal role on the Silk Road. Colorful lanterns, meanwhile, evoke the country’s history of travel and exploration.
The hotel’s 103 guestrooms and 47 suites mirror the diverse landscapes of Oman through a palette of blue, green, and brown, complemented by materials like desert rose marble and maple wood.
Custom headboards feature fabric inspired by the traditional Omani hat, the kumma. To stay true to its heritage, the textiles were crafted to match the size and design constraints of fabrics woven on small, traditional looms.
The spa continues the theme with a stunning chandelier resembling flowing water that welcomes guests into an oasis of vibrant colors and geometric patterns.
