As part of its meticulous restoration by Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR), the Dorchester hotel in London has reopened the Artists’ Bar and Promenade.
The Mayfair hotel reintroduces its F&B havens with gallery-like aesthetics inspired by the joie de vivre of the UK capital. “We felt it was important to bring more natural light and freshness to the public areas, so the guests would have a sense of ‘renouveau’ when they walked into the Dorchester,” says PYR designer Claire Mabon. “We wanted guests to feel a contagiously warm energy throughout the space throughout the day.”
The Promenade continues to serve as the heart of the Dorchester, reflecting the stateliness of nearby Hyde Park across intimate and upscale interiors. Refreshing colorways echo English landscapes with delicate white and sage green ceilings finished with gold leaf accents. A collection of original contemporary British artwork infuses nature into the environment, anchored by marble floors topped with bespoke handtufted rugs. Blue sofas and yellow and deep pink chairs paired with dark oak tables are also installed.
At the end of the Promenade, the Artists’ Bar heralds guests with a grandiose, circular Lalique Crystal bar. A monumental chandelier amplifies the shimmer of the space’s opulent focal points including mirrored ceilings, striking pillars, and Liberace’s mirrored piano. Its own collection of original artwork instills an elegant sense of place with eye-catching pieces like a reinterpretation of Queen Elizabeth II’s postage stamp composed of handsewn Mother of Pearl buttons and an aerial map of Hyde Park made entirely of gold leaf.
