The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection is a new coastal escape now open on South Carolina’s Johns Island—the largest of the Sea Islands cluster.
The Dunlin—named after a local shorebird—is situated on 2,000 acres with 20 miles of waterfront, scenic nature trails, rich marshlands, two restaurants, and a spa.
The Dunlin honors coastal architecture
Architect Robert C. Glazier (a Hospitality Design Platinum Circle honoree) was tasked with integrating a modern take on the Southern summer home into the Kiawah River’s pristine ecosystem. Marrying whimsical style with contemporary coastal living, the resort honors both the island’s architectural character—with generous porches, gabled roofs, and open-space preservation—and its natural elements.
Meanwhile, the interiors—led by Amanda Lindroth Design—pair classic island aesthetic with whimsical charm. Sunny batik prints and soothing undertones reminiscent of original Sea Island homes are found throughout.
Accommodations at the Dunlin
Each of the resort’s 72 cottage-style guestrooms and suites reflect the surrounding landscape. Wicker, wood, and textured linen mingle with white-washed tones, mint-green accents, and honey oak floors.
Nearly double the size of the guestrooms, suites feature spacious living rooms, dining nooks, and in-room soaking tubs with river views. The signature Sweetbay Suite—which offers a wraparound porch, indoor fireplace, and outdoor tub—can also be booked as a private, two-bedroom cottage.
All accommodations boast intimate, private settings, while having easy access to the Dunlin’s onsite amenities, like the main River House, the atmospheric Willet Room bar, and signature restaurant Linnette’s. Nearby, the Cove offers poolside dining year round with a 1950s-inspired beach club aesthetic.
Additionally, the resort also features event spaces at the River Barns, a versatile collection of indoor riverfront venues including the Shippon, an airy light-filled ballroom; the Lime House, a waterside meeting room complete with a signature fireplace; and the furnished River Cottage.
The Dunlin will also add 19 privately owned branded residences, which are slated for pre-sale this year.
