TOO Hôtel has debuted across the upper levels of one of the Jean Nouvel-designed Tours Duo skyscrapers in the 13th arrondissement in Paris. Featuring a design by Philippe Starck, the novel hospitality concept defies convention with an aesthetic that playfully explores the interplay between earth and sky.
“It’s the tale of a castle floating above Paris, not quite Earth-bound, a place where anything is possible,” Starck says. “That floating sensation gives you a real buzz; when you’re inside the place, everything is amplified: you’re more beautiful, more in love, more creative. This castle is full of surprises, but the most stunning is its location—it hangs in the clouds. It flies over the big cities. They say it’s currently on a stopover in Paris. But when the light fades in the evening, you get a glimpse of Tokyo, Los Angeles, and many other cities across the world.”
Modern themes are reinterpreted through a mix of natural materials—including wicker and wood—installed alongside gleaming chrome and new technological elements. The noble materiality contrasts the angular precision of the Tours Duo in tandem with a color palette that mirrors the changing hues of the sky, complete with cream tones to notes of sunset orange.
The hotel’s TOO Restaurant houses diners within a glass cube topped with glittering gold ceilings. Powder pink walls and surrealist murals by Pierre Monestier form a backdrop for sophisticated furniture as well.
The TOO TacTac Skybar is among the city’s tallest bars, ascending more than 440 feet. A panoramic 1,600-square-foot terrace is also attached to the cocktail bar, inviting guests to gaze upon the sprawling City of Lights. Further, the TOO Chill spa boasts a terrace on the 17th floor, as well as a trio of treatment rooms, custom cedar sauna, a 10-person jacuzzi, and a fitness center walled with glass.
Located between the tower’s 17th and 24th floors, the 139 guestrooms and suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows to cinematically reinforce the city and sky. Chambers are also equipped with wide sinks and tentacular lamps in the bathroom that twist and wind around themselves.
