The Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead has revealed a comprehensive renovation by New York-based firm BHDM Design.
Upgrades reinvigorate the property in homage to the natural beauty of the setting, drawing upon both local dogwood festivals and existing neoclassical elements. “The inspiration for the Waldorf Astoria Atlanta stems from the notion that Atlanta is a ‘city in the forest,’” says BHDM principal and owner Dan Mazzarini. “With annual dogwood celebrations, we chose to celebrate the biophilic nature of the city. Guests are welcomed with an approachable but elevated southern hospitality. While upscale, we wanted the scale of the space and the inviting details to make the space approachable.”
Detailed with floral motifs and a sense of openness, public spaces unfold like a gradation of saturation and experience. The brand’s signature Peacock Alley restaurant welcomes guests with lightness, offering respite upon gently curved sofas and chairs apt for dining and lounging. New custom sconces and furnishings illuminate the space, while a custom handpainted mural by artist Dean Barger depicts silvery dappled forest overhead.
The intimate Brassica bar glows just beyond, highlighting Art Deco-inspired details reflective of the Waldorf Astoria brand across the modern brasserie. Custom cerused oak walls, white oak floors, and saddle leather banquettes are further warmed by custom pendants and geometric gold-leafed wallcovered insets. A bespoke chandelier informed by the dogwoods also gleams in the main dining room.
Formerly an open-air patio, the new Solarium is outfitted with uplit trellises, overhead lanterns, and indoor-outdoor furniture. Twelve-foot drapery in velvet faux bois is installed for a dash of luxury as well.
Guestrooms further echo the “city within a forest” narrative with repainted corridors lined with dogwood-inspired carpeting and new artwork. A residential-style ambiance permeates accommodations, the creamy-hued sofettes offset dark walnut and bronze tables accented by swing arm wall sconces clad with over-scaled shades. Tone-on-tone panels adorn windows with an ombré flowering branch motif, while carpeting infuses gray and pearl tones.
Across the more than 20 signature suites, tables, upholstery, walnut millwork, and balcony furnishings elevate the guest experience, set against the backdrop of downtown Buckhead. The presidential suite houses a fireside lounge below silver-leafed ceilings that add warmth. Polished walnut cabinets and stone marble counters are also on display in the kitchen just beyond an eight-person dining table.
