A new dining destination has debuted in the Bay Area. Macarena, a traditional Spanish restaurant, reinvents the space formerly inhabited by Michelin Guide-recognized Bird Dog.

Designed by Alexa Nafisi-Movaghar of Adean Studios, the restaurant brings an elevated option to Silicon Valley while paying homage to its namesake, the Spanish dancer Macarena.

Drawing inspiration from camerinos, the vanity spaces found in theatrical dressing rooms, Adean Studios infused the interiors with Old World charm layered with modern restraint.

Guests are welcomed at an intimate marbled stone-topped bar, framed by fringed pendant lamps, before moving into the main dining room—a lively bistro-like setting anchored by velvet banquettes, rattan-backed chairs, and black-and-white stone flooring.

A latticed ceiling adds visual depth, while moody patterned wallcoverings and an ornate fireplace brings additional richness to the space.

Energy meets elegance at Macarena

The energy of Spanish culture flows from the open kitchen, complete with a traditional jamón cutting station, that gives guests a glimpse into the action.

Classical elements, including crown molding and mirrored paneled cabinets, are softened by wavy lines, curves, and fringes. Subtle nods to San Sebastián-born sculptor Eduardo Chillida introduce masculine counterpoints through clean lines and modernist references.

Verdant touches heighten the layered ambiance, with low-level accent lighting and lush greenery—including a dramatic indoor tree—that create a sense of warmth and shelter.
