Motel 6 has opened its first new-build property showcasing the "Phoenix" prototype in North Texas. Featuring a new exterior designed by BOKA Powell of Dallas, Motel 6 Northlake-Speedway offers Priestmangoode-designed guestrooms with wood-effect flooring, granite bathroom countertops, 32-inch flat screen TVs, and comfortable settee areas. A 24-hour food and beverage marketplace is another hallmark of the prototype.

The motel also integrates a series of energy-efficient initiatives designed to make the property the chain’s first to seek LEED certification. In addition to technologically advanced heating and cooling systems and fluorescent light bulb and battery recycling programs, the Motel 6 incorporates other green measures, including:

• Thermal solar water heating
• Reflective cool roof
• Low-e glass tinted windows
• Low-energy lighting (compact fluorescent and LED)
• High-efficiency PTAC units with wireless occupancy-sensing thermostats
• High-efficiency laundry equipment with computer-controlled dryers
• Environmentally sensitive laundry and cleaning products
• Minimal western sun exposure to keep the building cooler in hotter months
• Native landscaping with water-efficient and drought-resistant plants
• High-tech irrigation control
• Guestroom low-flow 1.1-gallon pressurized toilet
• 0.5-gallon aerators in all sinks
• 1.75GPM shower heads
