Preservationists Suggest Ghost Ship for Philadelphia Casino

A preservation group in Philadelphia is suggesting that a historic cruise liner, the SS United States, could serve as a waterfront hotel-casino for the stalled Foxwoods Casino project, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Proponents say that for $150 million to $200 million, the ghost ship could be refurbished to house gaming floors, restaurant, event space, a museum, and a boutique hotel. The casino project has changed hands from the Mashantucket Pequot tribe to Steve Wynn to Harrah’s, which has presented renderings for a $275 million Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino. The gaming conglomerate has until December 10 to close the deal.
