Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will launch its maiden outpost in the Netherlands in 2023. Housed within the former Palace of Justice, the forthcoming 134-room Rosewood Amsterdam is being spearheaded by architecture firm Kentie & Partners and design practice Studio Piet Boon. In order to preserve the property’s rich heritage and quintessential character, the redesign will also be overseen by the Bureau Monumenten en Archeologie (BMA).
A contemporary ethos will define the updated structure to reflect the city’s lively energy. Original elements will infuse a distinctive Dutch identity, while a revitalized balance and functionality will inject modernity into the centuries-old building. The lobby lounge will invite curiosity and comfort with a library filled with books, artwork, and artifacts. Amsterdam-based practice concrete will oversee the design of the hotel’s vibrant signature restaurant, while London-based interiors firm Sagrada, led by David D’Almada, will craft an intimate bar—complete with rich colorways and high-end finishes that complement views of the canal. Additional onsite amenities include Sense, a Rosewood spa, as well as meeting and event spaces, like the 3,000-square-foot ballroom.
