Designed by AIIX Studio, Strichka—Ukrainian for “ribbon”—is a new Kyiv restaurant that celebrates heritage through modern forms, ecological materials, and local craft.
Honoring Ukrainian heritage
Ukrainian tradition is infused into both the cuisine and interior. Textured walls, for instance, recall traditional clay huts, and handmade decorative tiles and ceramic plates are imprinted with unique meadow flowers by local artisans. Authentic Opishnia ceramics and Tripillian-era jugs serve as artful accents, accompanied by seasonal wildflower arrangements.
Dried herbs—such as mint, yarrow, cornflower, poppy—carry cultural significance, symbolizing protection, healing, and reverence in Ukrainian tradition.
The space is tied together through a locally sourced palette of wood, clay, and linen, along with bespoke furniture and fixtures made by regional masters.
An open kitchen at STRICHKA
At the heart of Strichka lies an open kitchen, inviting guests to experience the culinary process firsthand. A communal table carved from natural stone anchors the space, serving as a centerpiece for shared meals, intimate dinners, and culinary workshops alike.
“Our vision was to craft a space where Ukrainian culture lives authentically in every surface—not through obvious references, but through meaningful materials and subtle symbols that carry generations of memory,” says Oleksandr Bosenko, founder of AIIX studio.
