Set on the rim of Israel’s Mount Carmel Ridge overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Elma Arts Complex Luxury Hotel is located in the former Mivtachim Sanitarium, a circa-1966 Brutalist structure by architect Yaakov Rechter. Together with Tel Aviv-based architecture firm Baranowitz + Kronenberg, and Herzliya, Israel-based designer Lea Mahler, philanthropist and art collector Lily Elstein reimagined the space as a 95-room hotel with an art gallery and two performance halls.
