ASID and USGBC Team-Up for Green Learning

Published: October 2, 2009

New technologies, products, and projects are being developed in the sustainable design arena. Keep pace with the latest green developments through the American Society of Interior Designers’ (ASID) and the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) four new REGREEN e-learning courses. The online, self-paced, two-hour courses provide interior designers, contractors, and others working in the built environment with in-depth instructions, best practices, and guidelines for sustainable renovation projects.

"REGREEN has been guiding people through sustainable renovation projects since its inception in 2008 and these e-learning courses will drastically increase REGREEN’s reach," said Thom Banks, Hon. FASID, deputy executive director for ASID. "One day, all renovations will be sustainable, and ASID is proud to be working with USGBC to create the educational opportunities to make this happen."

"These new courses will be a highly valuable resource to both consumers and design professionals," said Jennifer Owens, USGBC manager of residential education. "As the interest in green residential retrofits continues to grow, the REGREEN program will continue to be the benchmark for home remodeling energy and resource efficiency. Participants in these courses will gain comprehensive understanding of the program and learn how green remodeling contributes to the greater environmental good."

The new e-learning courses are available for purchase online for $39.99 each for ASID and USGBC members or $59.99 for non-members. The courses include "REGREEN: A Bath Remodel," which explores bath renovation strategies and identifies best practices to incorporate into future remodeling projects. "REGREEN: A Deep Energy Retrofit" shows how to maximize energy efficiency and explains the key elements in deep energy retrofits. "REGREEN: A Guide for REGREEN Remodeling Projects" explains how to reduce the environmental impact of remodeling and how to apply REGREEN guidelines to a project. Finally, "REGREEN: A Kitchen Remodel" looks at strategies and key elements in a green kitchen renovation.
