Nobu Hospitality—the international group founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and film producer Meir Teper—has announced a partnership with Asset World Corporation (AWC) to develop Plaza Athénée Hotels in New York and Bangkok. Both properties are expected to open in 2026.
“The Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok and the Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa New York will redefine the standards of luxury and sophistication not only in Thailand but also in the U.S.,” says Nobu Hospitality CEO Trevor Horwell.
Located in the city’s Upper East Side on 64th Street and Park Avenue, Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa New York will be Nobu’s inaugural hotel in the city. In addition to suites with indoor and outdoor glassed terraces and gazebos, the 145-room property will boast a traditional Japanese Onsen, spa, and wellness center. The hotel will offer a Nobu omakase experience, a bar and lounge, and a rooftop with panoramic city views.
Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok will call the East Asiatic Company heritage building home. The property, set next to the Chao Phraya River, will also include a special Nobu cruise boat for bespoke private functions.
Additionally, Nobu Hospitality recently opened the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant Sevilla, designed by Spanish firm dAAr Arquitectura. Set in the heart of the Andalusian capital at Plaza de San Francisco, the hotel occupies two early-20th-century residential buildings revamped to pay homage to the Nobu brand’s Japanese roots.
Elements of the original buildings have been preserved, from the central glass courtyard to a staircase adorned with original tiles. The 25 rooms and suites feature materials inspired by the Far East, including handcrafted wooden furniture that evokes a sense of warmth. Onsite amenities include an expansive rooftop terrace complete with a swimming pool and dining area, as well as the signature Nobu restaurant and bar.
