Interior Image Group (IIG) and Miami-based design studio Spazio Bressan joined forces to design KAORI, a new Mediterranean-Asian fusion restaurant in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood. Housed across the ground floor of the SLS Lux complex, the concept echoes a sophisticated airiness that also promotes casual comfort.
“We drew inspiration from KAORI’s urban locale but wanted to blend both modern and relatable elements to support a cohesive design full of warmth and sophistication,” says IIG senior vice president of design Leslie Schultz. “Our vision created a destination for patrons that engages all of their senses.”
Spread across 4,500 square feet, KAORI comprises a bar and lounge on its first level as well as a dining room, private dining room, and an expo kitchen situated on the second floor. Vertical screens are installed throughout the interior gently filter light and frame narrow sightlines, while simultaneously creating sense of intimacy for diners.
A natural materiality including concrete, metals, linen, sisal, and wood also spans the space—forming a palette of warm neutral tones and cool plasters. Porcelain floors contrast darker wood and stone surfaces to infuse nature into the restaurant’s urban sensibility along with lush greenery. Origami-like light fixtures artfully suspend from double-height ceilings, while a mix of glass globes and woven rattan pendants round out the onsite light fixtures. Smoky mirrors and custom furniture further establish a balance between elegant and approachable.
“The best interiors evoke a mood,” adds Esteban Bressan of Spazio Bressan. “They’re an extension of our lifestyle—they entertain, provide solace, bring us closer together, and welcome us home.”
